IPL has acquired unique popularity amongst the cricket lovers all across the world. Apart from watching the cricket matches in the stadiums, you can also catch the IPL fever sitting back at home. IPL – What it is

IPL is the abbreviated version of the ‘Indian Premier League’, which is a Twenty20 cricket tournament. The cricket competition was started by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) under the supervision of Lalit Modi, who is the Vice President of BCCI and also the Commissioner and Chairman of IPL. Right from the first IPL season, there has been 8 participating teams consisting of players from different countries along with the cricketers from India.

IPL – The tournament schedule

You should know the schedule so that you can watch the matches live and catch the IPL fever in a better way. The 3rd IPL season has commenced on 12th March, 2010, with the first match played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers. Till 19th April, 2010, every team will play 2 matches with every other participating team in the event. The semifinals are scheduled on 21st and 22nd April, 2010 at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The final IPL match will be played at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on 25th April, 2010.

IPL – Prize and recognition

It has been expected that BCCI will earn about 1 billion USD from the IPL matches over a period of 5-10 years. Till the year 2017, the prize money on offer will be 6% of the total earning. IPL will select 2 players each year to award Orange Cap and Purple Cap. Orange Cap will be won by the batsman scoring the most cumulative runs on each day of the IPL tournament. Likewise, Purple Cap will be awarded to the cricketer with the maximum number of cumulative wickets in the entire event.

One of the most unique facts about IPL III is that the multiplexes have decided to telecast the cricket matches live in the big screen. So, don’t worry if you’ve not been able to purchase the tickets. You can very well catch the IPL fever in several multiplexes all over India.
