Gadgets – Keeping life simple and easy

Gadgets are small devices which have unique functions and designs. They could be anything from bicycles to iPods. Gadgets make your life easier and more exciting. Your life surrounds around them and the more you use a gadget, the more addicted you get to it. Gadgets’ inception goes back a century ago and it started to be commonly used from 1980s. Gadgets are also called appliances, contraptions, mechanisms, devices, gizmos, etc.

4 Types of gadgets

The term gadget is usually linked with PDAs, high-end laptops or iPods which are the invention of some new technology, but there are various other types of gadgets which are not related to any sort of new technology. Gadgets are generally divided into four main categories, which are given below:

  • Application gadgets – These gadgets are used on computers as applications which make it easier to work with computers. They are also called widgets. For ex. – Google Gadgets, Microsoft Gadgets, Apple Widgets, etc.
  • Mechanical gadgets – They make use of mechanical technology and are very innovative. Bicycles, telephones, clocks, thermometers, refrigerators, etc. are mechanical gadgets.
  • Electronic gadgets – These gadgets use electronic technology and are very helpful. They run on electricity. Some of them are cell phones, radios, televisions, transistors, etc.
  • Programmable gadgets – They are the newest of all gadgets and are based on microprocessors. They are run by software and can be used anywhere at any time. All advanced mobile phones, GPS navigation devices, laptops, palmtops, etc. are examples of programmable devices.

With the advent of a new technology every day, gadgets are becoming more and more common everyday. Many of you know that you’re addicted to gadgets, but there is not much to do about it. Everyone is using a gadget even without being well aware of its advantages and limitations which make their lives complicated rather than getting simple.
