Miss Universe pageant – The most talked about event in the world of fashion
Miss Universe pageant holds a very special place in everybody’s heart. No doubt it’s the most awaited event in the television history. It forms a part of the entertainment industry as well has a patriotic feeling attached with it. Young girls represent their countries and when they win it becomes a historical moment for them as well as their countries.
The winner of the Miss Universe pageant 2010
Jimena Navarrete, a 22-year-old from Mexico was crowned Miss Universe on 23rd August beating 82 contestants from other countries. She is a nature lover from Guadalajara who would love to help women with eating disorders. She was crowned the title by ex-Miss Universe Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela.

The 59th Miss Universe pageant was held in Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The runners-up of the event
The 1st runner-up was Miss Jamaican Yendi Phillips, the 2nd runner-up was Miss Australian Jesinta Campbell and the 3rd runner-up was Miss Ukrainian Anna Povslavaska. The five countries to reach the final round were- Mexico, Jamaica, Australia, Ukraine and Philippines.
Prizes won other than the title
Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete won a lot of other prizes which includes a large sum of money, a one-year scholarship in the New York Film Academy, A luxurious apartment in New York with living expenses. Other than these, she also won shoes, jewelry and hordes of clothes to grace her achievement. Immediately after the event she was congratulated by the Mexican President Felipe Caldron and his wife on Twitter.
Special awards given out
There were also some awards given out to the contestants. Miss Congeniality was given out to Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell and the awards Miss Photogenic and the award for the Best National Costume were handed over to Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul.
Judges of the show
The event was judged by several celebrities from entertainment and other fields. They were actors Chazz Palminteri, William Baldwin, television personality and journalist BJ Coleman, illusionist Chris Angel and model Niki Taylor.
The presenters of the show
The show was anchored by Bret Michaels (American singer and song writer) and Natalie Morales (National Correspondent for NBC’s Today’s Show).
During the Swimsuit Competition, the music played was “Viva Elvis” by Cirque du Soleil which was performed live. During the Evening Gown Round, “Save Room” was performed by John Legend and The Roots also performed during the same round.
